SHARK RESEARCH POWERED BY CAT

OCEARCH helps sustain the oceans with help from Caterpillar

Caterpillar and OCEARCH have agreed to a multi-year partnership to help propel the OCEARCH organisation's global research on sharks. Specific species include the great white shark and other large apex predators. Regions being studied include sections of the USA's eastern seaboard,as well as South Africa's coastline, where the great white population is widespread, particularly in the Cape.

"Most people think sharks are invincible, but they are in real danger," says OCEARCH founder and expedition leader Chris Fischer. "We must find a sustainable path forward because sharks play a crucial role in maintaining balance in the delicate oceanic ecosystem."

OCEARCH relies on Cat equipment to power the MV OCEARCH, a 126 foot vessel that serves as an at-sea laboratory.

Caterpillar sponsored the generators and marine engines on this boat.
